About Nero Marquina

Nero Marquina is a world-renowned Spanish marble primarily quarried in the Markina region of the Basque Country. It is celebrated for its deep, midnight-black background, which is dramatically contrasted by crisp white calcite veining and occasional fossilized fragments. While prized as a high-end marble for its intense coloration and fine grain, it is geologically a bituminous limestone; its inky darkness is actually derived from naturally occurring organic matter like bitumen. This classic stone provides a sophisticated, monochromatic aesthetic that has remained a staple of luxury design for centuries, frequently used in high-contrast pairings with white Italian marbles.
