White Marble Countertops

White marble is one of our most popular natural stones and makes an arresting statement in interior design. While it is easy to carve, marble is also capable of bearing immense weight, perfect for monolithic columns and supporting structures such as the Parthenon in Greece or the Taj Mahal in India.
Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when limestone is subjected to heat and pressure. Composed primarily of calcite, it usually contains other minerals including micas, quartz, graphite, pyrite, and iron oxides, which give it many facets and details. Normally a light-colored rock, marble that has been formed in the presence of other minerals can feature shades of pink, gray, yellow, blue, or black. Carrara, Italy is famous for its white marble, where it has been quarried for more than 2 millennia.
The upscale and classic appearance of marble can add elegance to any design. It’s most commonly used for countertops, interior flooring, shower walls, and fireplace surrounds. Marble can scratch, etch, or stain fairly easily if not properly cared for, which is why we recommend sealing upon installation and again each year thereafter. Using only ph-neutral and non-abrasive products when cleaning marble is recommended, as well as making sure the stone isn’t exposed to acidic solutions such as lemon juice, tomatoes, or vinegar. With age, marble will begin to patina, an effect that adds a well-loved element to the stone. However, marble that shows signs of distress or age can be poulticed and resurfaced back to like-new condition.
