About Hudson Ash Soapstone

Hudson Ash Soapstone, also known as Smoke Soapstone, is a distinguished natural stone quarried from the rich geological regions of Brazil. This variety is celebrated for its deep charcoal to dark gray background, often accented by subtle, wispy white veining that creates a misty, ethereal aesthetic. As a metamorphic rock composed primarily of talc, it possesses a signature velvety texture that is soft to the touch yet remarkably dense. Its non-porous nature makes it naturally resistant to bacteria, staining, and acidic etching without the need for chemical sealants.

While prized for contemporary kitchen countertops and rustic fireplaces, its extreme thermal stability allows it to withstand temperatures up to 600 degrees. Interestingly, while its natural state is a soft matte gray, applying mineral oil or wax can transform the surface into a dramatic, saturated black, allowing for a customizable finish that develops a unique patina over time.
