About Medicean Green

Medicean Green, also known as Prato Green or Verde di Prato, is a historic Italian serpentine marble traditionally quarried in the hills of Tuscany near Prato. It is celebrated for its deep, lustrous emerald to near-black tones, often accented by a subtle, waxy sheen and delicate mineral intrusions. This metamorphic stone is a cornerstone of Tuscan Romanesque architecture, famously used in polychromatic facades alongside white Carrara marble, such as in the Cathedral of Florence and Prato’s own Duomo. Historically associated with the power and patronage of the Medici family, this rare material offers a regal, timeless aesthetic for luxury interiors. Since the original quarries are currently closed, it remains a prestigious and sought-after legacy stone.
